Amsterdam Swim Cup: Ranomi Kromowidjojo Sets Lifetime Best in 100 Free

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, March 18. THE Amsterdam Swim Cup came to a close with a top-10 all time effort going up on the scoreboard, and into the long course meter record books.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo shot to the top of the world rankings in the women's 100 free with a sterling time of 53.30. That swim eclipsed the 53.57 clocked by Fran Halsall at the British Trials earlier this month, and moved Kromowidjojo into a ninth-place tie with Dana Vollmer on the all time charts. She nearly clipped Marleen Veldhuis' Dutch standard of 53.17. Veldhuis, meanwhile, placed second tonight in 54.42 for 10th in the world rankings this year. Femke Heemskerk touched in 54.44, just off her eighth-ranked season best of 54.17 from last month in Montpellier.

Ingvild Snildal raced to victory in the women's 50 fly with a 26.41, moving her to fifth in the world rankings. Triin Aljand placed second in 26.52 for a seventh-ranked tie with Nadiya Koba of Ukraine, while Anna Dowgiert took third in 26.95.

Bastiaan Lijesen turned in a 25.30 for the men's 50 back win, just off his prelim time of 25.29 that put him sixth in the world rankings. Nick Driebergen placed second in 25.60 for 18th, while Lavrans Solli finished third in 25.99. Panagiotis Samilidis moved to ninth in the world rankings in the men's 50 breast with a 28.00. Aleksander Hetland placed second in 28.21 for 19th, while Lennart Stekelenburg finished third in 28.30.

Stefan Nystrand won the men's 50 free in 22.20. That swim pushed him to 11th in the rankings. Jasper van Mierlo earned second in 22.78, while Jeroen Baars earned third in 23.31. Konstantinos Markozis won the men's 200 fly in 1:57.54 for 11th in the world, while Nicolo Beni finished second in 1:58.42 for 24th. Stefanos Dimitriadis claimed third in 1:59.61.

Sharon van Rouwendaal checked in with a 2:10.35 to win the women's 200 back. She improved to 13th in the world rankings with the swim. Annemarie Worst finished second in 2:13.23, while Hannah Miley touched third in 2:13.68. Joline Hostman won the women's 200 breast in 2:27.47 to improve to 17th in the world rankings. Weronika Paluszek finished second in 2:31.65, while Elin Martensson took third in 2:33.34.

Judith Stap topped the women's 800 free in 8:56.51, while Leonie van Noort took second in 9:01.73. Marieke Nijhuis wound up third in 9:02.35. Timur Delleloglu clocked a 4:31.74 to win the men's 400 IM. Lucas Greven (4:33.81) and Sebas van Lith (4:35.05) placed second and third. Dion Dreesens captured the men's 200 free in 1:49.50, while Denis Gayvoronskiy took second in 1:52.36. Gard Kvale placed third in 1:52.85.
