Aleksandr Sadovnikov chased down a top-five ranking in the world in the men’s 50-meter fly at the 2016 Russian Nationals.

Sadovnikov won the sprint fly event in a time of 23.51, moving past Fred Bousquet (23.54) into fifth in the world after taking sixth this morning with a 23.64.

He’s not far off the Russian record of 23.24 set by Evgeny Korotyshkin back in 2009.

Nikita Konovalov placed second overall in a time of 23.71 to move to 10th in the world, while Vitaly Melnikov finished third in 23.91.

Viacheslav Prudnikov (23.97), Nikita Korolev (24.02), Roman Rybin (24.02), Evgeny Koptelov (24.12) and Kirill Kiselev (24.16) also competed in the finale.

Notably, Roman Shevliakov won the B final in 23.81, that would have put him third in the A final.
