Alberto Razzetti Completes Gruelling Double At Nico Sapio Trophy

Alberto Razzetti claimed a gruelling 200 fly/400IM double on day two of the 49th Nico Sapio Trophy in Genoa.

The two-day competition doubles as a selection meet for the European Short-Course Championships in Otopeni, Romania, from 5-10 December.

Razzetti opened his evening with victory in the 200 fly in 1:52.51, 0.13 ahead of Christian Ferraro (1:52.64).

He returned to the pool later in the 400IM, which he won by more than nine seconds in $:06.92.

Simone Spediacci overcame Lorenzo Altini in the battle for second in 4:16.22 to 4:16.38.

Benedetta Pilato won the 50 breaststroke before claiming bronze in the 200 on Friday to book a trip to Romania four years after taking gold and silver at her international short-course debut in Glasgow.

Italy is blessed with fine breaststrokers at the moment and it was Pilato who took the 100 touch in 1:04.03, 0.48 outside her national record of 1:03.55 in November 2020.

Behind her came Martina Carraro (1:04.76) and Arianna Castiglioni (1:05.67).

Ceccon & Quadarella Claim Second Golds

Thomas Ceccon returned to the water 24 hours after rattling the Italian 200IM mark en-route to gold on Friday.

The 22-year-old came home first in the 100 back in 50.15 ahead of Lorenzo Mora – winner of the 50/200 back double on Friday – who clocked 50.53.

Michele Lamberti took third in 51.12.

Olympic relay silver medallist Lorenzo Zazzeri won the 100 free by almost a second in 46.69 ahead of 200 winner Paolo Conte Bonin (47.67) and Giovanni Carraro (48.82).

Simona Quadarella added the 800 to  her 400 title in 8:12.71, almost 18secs ahead of Emma Giannell who was second home in 8:30.59.

Chiara Tarantino added 50 gold to her 100 free title in 24.34 ahead of European junior long-course champion Sara Curtis (24.47) and Italian record-holder Silvia Di Pietro (24.58).

Sofia Morini demolished her 200 free PB, slicing 1.72secs in 1:55.58.

Anna Egorova and Matilde Biagiotti repeated their 400 finishing places in 1:56.40 and 1:56.70 respectively.

Just 0.02 separated the first two men home in the 50 fly with Michele Busa edging the title in a 22.81 PB from Matteo Rivolta (22.83).

Gabriele Mancini was 0.18 outside Nicolo Martinenghi‘s Italian textile best in the 200m breaststroke.

Mancini upgraded 100 silver to gold in 2:05.54 ahead of Stefano Saladini (2:06.42) and Alessandro Fusco (2:07.24).

Matteo Ciampi claimed the men’s 400 free in 3:41.58 in the opening event of the night,  Simone Cerasuolo added the 50 breast title to his 100 gold in 26.37 and Lorenzo Glessi claimed the 100IM in 52.66.

Anita Gastaldi won the 200IM in 2:10.35, Alessia Polieri made her first 100 fly journey inside 58 in 57.44, Costanza Cocconcelli took the women’s 50 back in 26.83 and Martina Cenci claimed the 200 back in 2:06.98
