A ten-strong British Swimming team has been selected for the LEN European Short Course Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark from the 13 – 17 December.

The team will be led by World Champions Duncan Scott, Ben Proud and Adam Peaty who will be joined by a group of younger athletes looking to cement their places within the senior ranks of the British team.

The team will be looking to gain some valuable early season racing as they put to the test their competition skills and processes whilst in the Danish Capital.

Team Leader and Head Coach for the event Tim Jones said, “We have selected a team with a great mix of experience and future potential. It will be an excellent opportunity for our next generation to hone their arena skills by working alongside some of our proven senior medallists. Whilst the meet is early season, I am sure it will provide some great racing ahead of our benchmark long course meets in 2018.”

“Whilst the meet is early season, I am sure it will provide some great racing ahead of our benchmark long course meets in 2018,” Jones said.

Off the back of a hard block of training including a three-week altitude camp over in Flagstaff, Arizona, World Champion Duncan Scott is looking to put the hard work into practice and end the short course season on a high.

“For me it will be the first time representing Great Britain internationally at a short course meet and being selected to represent your country is always an honour”, said 2017 World Champion Duncan Scott. “Racing in Copenhagen is a perfect opportunity to gain some international short course exposure and another chance to race some of the best in the world.”

“For me it will be the first time representing Great Britain internationally at a short course meet,” Scott said.

The Stirling-based swimmer will be looking to execute and refine skills worked on in training and carry them over into the long course season.

Great Britain will also be represented by World Junior Champion Freya Anderson who is looking sign off from a stellar 2017 of competition and achievements.

“Being selected for the LEN European Short Course team is very exciting, it’s only my second senior team and I’m always very proud to represent Great Britain.” Said Anderson. “It’s hugely inspiring to go away with the senior and more experienced swimmers.

“It’s only my second senior team and I’m always very proud to represent Great Britain,” Anderson said.

“The SC Champs fit perfectly into my current training and competition plan as I always race short course right up to the New Year. The meet will be a chance to see where I am fitness-wise and a great platform for some tough racing.”
