Adam Peaty Dives Deep Into Injury and Career on Inside With Brett Hawke Podcast

One of the most disappointing pieces of news from the sport from the past week was the announcement that Adam Peaty will miss this summer’s World Championships in Budapest due to injury. During a dryland workout, Peaty endured a broken bone in his right foot, a fracture that will prevent the British star from chasing fourth consecutive titles in the 50-meter breaststroke and 100 breaststroke.

While dealing with the aftermath of the injury and designing a gameplan to get back to action when that moment is possible, Peaty took time to sit down with an interview on the Inside With Brett Hawke Podcast. For nearly an hour, Peaty chatted with the two-time Olympic host, whose show has become can’t-miss content. Peaty’s injury occupies the beginning of the interview, as would be expected, and is filled with tremendous detail.

Peaty spoke with Hawke about the emotional impact of the injury, including the “raw” sting of dealing with the situation. The Brit noted that he disconnected from his phone and social media after the injury in order to digest what occurred, and how he can move forward. He also discussed the importance of the World Championships and how he uses those competitions to show the world what he is capable of doing and how far the human body can push itself.

Hawke and Peaty discussed training, how Cameron van der Burgh motivated the British champion to elevate his performances to a new level and the work and relationship he shares with longtime coach Mel Marshall. Peaty also analyzed his approach to meets, particularly his love of competing under pressure and in the biggest moments.
