Four ACC teams will begin their spring semester competitions this weekend as training trip season winds down. Highlighting the action will be a tri-meet at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center featuring the host Virginia Tech Hokies, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Kentucky Wildcats

Georgia Tech & Kentucky at Virginia Tech, 2 p.m. Friday & 9 a.m. Saturday

This two-day meet figures to feature some tight competition between the two ACC men’s teams. Georgia Tech ranked No. 25 in the latest CSCAA poll Dec. 6, while Virginia Tech was dropped from the rankings after coming in at No. 21 in the Nov. 23 poll. Seniors Robert Owen and Brandon Fiala have both impressed this season for the Hokies, along with sophomore Norbert Szabo, while the Yellow Jackets have received consistent performances from Rodrigo Correia and Moises Loschi.

On the women’s side, No. 18 Kentucky figures to have its way with both ACC squads. Backstrokers Danielle Galyer and Bridgette Alexander are among the best in the country in those events. The Hokie women, like their male counterparts, fell out of the most recent CSCAA poll after previously coming in at No. 25.

West Virginia at Pittsburgh, 10 a.m. Saturday

Conference realignment ended with West Virginia in the Big-12 and Pitt in the ACC, but these two schools remain rivals by virtue of the old Big East. Separated by just 75 miles, they continue to meet annually in the pool. The meet figures to bring some quick times, as well as another chance for senior Panther diver Dominic Giordano to shine on the boards.

Florida & Colorado at Miami, 3 p.m. Saturday

The Hurricanes will welcome two teams from further north on training trip in South Florida. Of course, the Buffaloes will be coming from a lot further than the Gators, whose men ranked No. 7 and women No. 21 in the December CSCAA poll. Both teams figure to be atop the points race in this three-way clash (Miami has divers only on the men’s team) in Coral Gables.
