Ten ACC swimming and diving teams will compete this coming weekend in the last busy weekend of dual meets for the semester. The schedule includes two matchups between schools in North Carolina and Virginia and another distant road trip for NC State (at least for the women).

First up is a Tennessee-Louisville showdown on Thursday as the Volunteers make the drive north from Knoxville. Matt Kredich’s team has some talented pieces, especially on the women’s side with Meghan SmallMaddy Banic and Erika Brown, but it’s tough to see that team hanging with Mallory Comerford and Louisville.

On Friday, Duke rolls into Charlottesville, Va., for the Cavaliers’ first home meet under new head coach Todd DeSorbo. Virginia has already beaten Penn State, Pitt and LSU, while Duke has not had much luck when going up against either Virginia Tech or NC State in its first two meets.

As for the Wolfpack, coming off dominant performances against Duke, Penn State and Wisconsin, Braden Holloway will take his women to the Bay Area to face reigning NCAA champion Stanford and reigning NCAA runner-up Cal. Needless to say, this is a step up in competition for NC State, which finished a program-best seventh at last year’s NCAA championships.

This is the second season under Holloway when NC State has ventured west. Previously, during the fall of 2015, the Wolfpack women faced USC in Los Angeles, while the men made the Stanford-Cal trip. This week, NC State’s men are off as they prepare for Texas to come to town the following week.
