Two-time European relay champion Abbie Wood has withdrawn from the British squad for the World Short-Course Championships starting in Abu Dhabi next week.

Wood, who is coached by Dave Hemmings at Loughborough National Training Centre, was looking to make another trip to an international podium after her two relay triumphs plus silver in the 200IM at the Europeans in Budapest in May.

However, Wood – who was fourth in the 200IM at the Tokyo Olympics – has had to pull out because of glandular fever.

She announced her withdrawal on social media, saying:

“Really gutted to say that I’ve had to pull out of the world short course championships next week due to glandular fever. My bodies just forcing me to chill for a bit after a hectic year. Sad to not be going out there with the team but I know they’ll smash it ????”
