Abbie Wood & Matt Richards Among The Winners On Final Day In Edinburgh; Evans & Guy Take Top Performance Awards
Abbie Wood, Matt Richards, Katie Shanahan and Luke Greenbank were among the winners as the Scottish National & Open Swimming Championships wrapped up in Edinburgh.
Angharad Evans won the Best Performance by a Female Athlete for her 100m breaststroke on Friday where she was just 0.02 off her British record in 1:04.98. That earned her 961 World Aquatics points. The University of Stirling swimmer also split 1:04.41 on the mixed medley relay in the Scottish capital.
James Guy won the men’s award for his 200 freestyle (862 points) which he won in 1:47.15 ahead of Richards and Duncan Scott.
Wood led the way throughout the women’s 200 free to touch first in 1:58.04, ahead of Leah Schlosshan who made some inroads down the final 50 in 1:58.22 with Freya Anderson third in 1:58.77.
Richards won the men’s 50 free in 22.59 to complete the sprint double ahead of Alex Cohoon (22.72) and David Cumberlidge (22.73). Paige Van der Westhuizen won the women’s dash in 25.93.
Shanahan dominated the women’s 200 back in 2:08.85, well ahead of Team Scotland teammate Holly McGill (2:11.18). Greenbank, the 2021 Olympic bronze medallist, won the men’s event in 1:58.54.
Ciara Schlosshan and Ed Mildred each completed the sprint fly double with 100 victories in 58.49 and 52.03 respectively.
Archie Goodburn won the men’s 50 breast in 27.65 ahead of Greg Butler (27.83).
