Women’s 400 IM

Tulane senior Olivia Johnson put the hammer down on the 400 IM final with a 4:07.72 as she won by nearly ten seconds over Cincinnati’s Camryn Streid (4:16.96). Johnson’s time would have qualified for NCAAs a year ago and she is looking to be the first Tulane swimmer to advance to Nationals since Mia Shachter in 2015.

SMU senior Erin Trahan had a hard fought win in the 100 butterfly with a 52.04 to just hold off Cincinnati’s Anheline Kutsko (52.20). Trahan narrowly missed the conference record of 51.42 set by Marne Erasmus in 2017.

Women’s 100 Breast

Houston senior Peyton Kondis had perhaps the top swim of the day with a 59.34 in the 100 breaststroke. She may have missed the meet record of 59.12 set by SMU’s Tara-Lynn Nicholas but it was still a good swim that should get her to NCAAs in 26 days. She won by a second over Tulane’s Katherine McDonald (1:00.34).

SMU junior Caleb Rhodenbaugh won the 100 breast final at 53.12 by 0.01 ahead of Cincinnati’s Dominic Polling (53.13). Caleb is the son of SMU head coach Greg Rhodenbaugh and surely made his family proud with his win.

East Carolina smashed the meet record in the men’s medley relay with Marek Osina (47.31), Lyubomir Epitropov (53.10), Gustavo Santos (45.95) and James Ward (43.17) swimming a 3:09.53 to break their own 3:10.55 they set last year.
