5 Things For This Week In The Pac-12

By Sarah Lloyd, Swimming World College Intern

Just a month before the Pac-12 Conference Championship at the end of February, the Pac-12 teams are gearing up and competing hard. Here are the top five storylines for this coming weekend.

Top Storylines:

  1. Women’s weekend. An overwhelming number of the match ups are only between the women’s teams. While there just two Pac-12 men’s teams competing this weekend, there are eight women’s teams competing. No. 15/11 Arizona will compete as a combined squad against No. 1/4 Texas and unranked Utah will compete together against Denver, but this weekend will really be a showcase for the women in the conference.
  2. The meet between the No. 2 Stanford women and the No. 18 UCLA women will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network, making it the second dual meet of the season to be covered and aired to the conference. Info here.
  3. Inter-conference match ups. While last weekend was a big one for conference meets, this weekend will see some of both. Texas is in the mix, as well as Nebraska, Boise State, and Denver.
  4. It could be rainy this weekend, which may pose an obstacle to outdoor racing for some of these teams. Either way, teams will compete hard and adjust as necessary.
  5. Arizona vs. Texas. This meet will be one of the most exciting meets this weekend. Texas is fresh off an off-weekend and Arizona is going to try to come back from back-to-back losses at Stanford and California. The men’s match up might be a bit of a blowout in Texas’ favor, but the women’s meet will probably be much closer.
