5 #TeamArena Athletes Rule Roost in Charlotte

U.S. Olympian Connor Jaeger swept three distance events and Hungarian Olympian Katinka Hozzu earned six medals as #TeamArena Arena-sponsored swimmers combined for 13 medals at the penultimate stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series last weekend.

Jaeger posted two top-10 times en route to his three medals in Charlotte. The Club Wolverine swimmer opened the meet with a win in the 800m freestyle, touching in 8:00.23 before earning a second win he 400m free in 3:46.30 – ninth-fastest in the world this year. Jaeger closed out the meet with a winning time of 14:58.13 in the mile – good for third-fastest in the world this year.

Also making headlines in Charlotte was Arena’s Tom Shields who bested Olympic gold medalists Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps to win the 100-meter butterfly. Shields posted a time of 52.12 seconds to earn the victory in the 16th-fastest time in the world this year. Lochte was second in 52.52 while Phelps was third in 52.59.

3. Lotte Friis

Danish standout Lotte Friis added to #TeamArena’s medal haul with wins in the 800- and 1500-meter freestyles. Friis opened the meet with a winning time of 16:00.32 in the mile before returning to take the 800m free in 8:25.07.

4. Katinka Hosszu

Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu recorded her second-straight six-medal performance in Charlotte posting wins in the women’s 200m free (1:55.89), 400m IM (4:35.19), 200m fly (2:08.00) and 100m back (59.47). Hosszu capped her impressive meet with a U.S. Open-record and win in the 200m IM (2:08.66) and a gold in the 200m back in 2:07.79.

5. Cammile Adams

U.S. Olympian and #TeamArena swimmer Cammile Adams also earned a spot on the podium with a silver medal in the 200m fly in 2:00.76.
