Caeleb Dressel Races to 22.09 50 Freestyle in Knoxville

After a relaxed morning, Caeleb Dressel was among those stars who turned on the jets tonight, as a number of tonight’s winners at the 2016 Tennessee Aquatics June Invite took their victories in dominant fashion.

Dressel topped the podium in the men’s splash and dash with a 22.09. That time was a full 1.24 second faster than his prelims swim and only .03 slower than the 16th ranked 22.06 he swam in Orlando. In 22.94 and 23.25, Zach Apple and Andrew Marsh finished second and third.

Ashley Neidigh was first to the wall in the women’s 800, stopping the clock in 8:50.10. Zoe Thatcher followed in second with a 8:57.14. Hannah Burns finished just over nine minutes in 9:00.90.

David Heron won the men’s 1500 by nine seconds, posting a 15:37.60. Nicholas Sweetser finished second in 15:46.96. Third went to Ben Lawless in 15:53.17.

Taylor Katz dominated the women’s 200 butterfly, finishing in 2:12.66. Hannah Kastigar was second in 2:16.46, just ahead of Michelle Cefal in 2:16.60.

Sebastien Rousseau was victorious in the men’s 200 butterfly. He stopped the clock in 2:00.63. James Bretscher claimed second with a 2:01.90, while Sam McHugh placed third in 2:02.94.

Faith Johnson struck gold in the women’s 50 freestyle with a time of 25.94. Amanda Kendall (26.04) touched second and Natalie Hinds (26.17) earned third.

In the women’s 200 backstroke, Sydney Sell was first to the wall with a 2:18.48, far ahead of the field. Ashley Cusano took second place honors in 2:27.05 and Natalie Widmer was third with a 2:32.00.

Sean Lehane obliterated the men’s 200 backstroke competition. He stopped the clock in 1:58.24. Jake Marcum was second (2:09.12) and John Baker (2:10.12) was third.

Sonia Wang took home gold with a 2:17.55 200 IM. Emma Barksdale was second in 2:19.08 and Kersten Dirrane rounded out the podium in 2:20.67.

Kile Aukerman out touched McHugh for the men’s 200 IM win, as the two posted times of 2:04.35 and 2:04.59. Jack Smith was third in 2:04.92.

No offense, Cathleen, but i’dventure to say the folks in Knoxville will be quite unhappy to read their meet is called the “Longhorn Elute” when it is actually dubbed the ” Volunteer Invitational” as in Tennessee Volunteers.

The Longhorn Invitational is in Austin, Texas, about a thousand mikes west.
