2021 Big 12 Swimming Championships Day Three Finals: Corbeau Drops 51 100 Breast, Pfeifer & Pash Post 4:04 400 IMs

The 2021 Big 12 swimming and diving championships continued Friday night from Austin, Texas as the Longhorns won every single event in the pool and also put up the nation’s top time in the 200 free relay with four weeks until NCAAs in Greensboro.

The Longhorns are a fairly young team this season, and those underclassmen were on full display in their home pool as freshman Olivia Bray got the night started with a cruising win in the 100 fly at 51.05 as she has been a 50.3 already this season. She won ahead of teammate Emma Sticklen (51.99).

Fellow freshman Carson Foster won his second Big 12 title with a win in the 400 IM at 3:40.22 in a thrilling race over sophomore Jake Foster (3:40.35) as that is a dangerous duo ahead of NCAAs in four weeks. Jake nearly caught Carson on the final 50 with a 25.36 to Carson’s 26.30.

Carson has already been a 3:35 this season while Jake has yet to break 3:40 in his career, inching closer and closer to that barrier.

David Johnston was third for Texas at 3:43.91.

Another freshman Anna Elendt won the 100 breaststroke with a comfortable 58.45 as the German native has already been a 58.0 this season and should factor into the national title in that event in three weeks. Elendt and Bray are a big reason why this Texas team is so vastly improved and why their medley relays are dangerous ahead of NCAAs. Kansas picked up big points from Kate Steward (1:01.24) in second with Iowa State’s Lehr Thorson (1:01.53) in third.

Sophomore Caspar Corbeau, who has yet to swim at an NCAA championships, swam a lifetime best in the 100 breaststroke with a 51.62 which puts himself eighth nationally with four weeks until NCAAs. He is a better 200 breaststroker and should show out well tomorrow as he took care of business in the shorter distance with a win over TCU’s Vitauts Silins (52.56) and Texas’ Charlie Scheinfeld (53.06).

This is Pfeifer’s fourth straight win in the event at the Big 12 swimming and diving championships as this was a season best for her and Pash.
