What could be a huge night for Virginia’s hopes of reclaiming the ACC Swimming and Diving Championship started off with a bang Friday, and who else would it be leading the way than Kate Douglass.

Douglass went 50.83 to win the 100 butterfly at the ACC Championships, leading a 1-2 finish with teammate Morgan Hill. But NC State limited its losses by rallying to win four of the six events on night 3 of the competition.

Event-by-event recap below.

ACC Swimming Championships, Greensboro Aquatic Center

100 butterfly

Douglass claimed the top seed in the morning and sped up slightly to clock in at 50.83. The gold joins Douglass’ title the 200 individual medley and the 200 medley and 200 free relays. She has the 200 breaststroke Saturday on the meet’s final day.

Second was Hill, last year’s champ, in 51.12, the same place she landed in the 50 free. Alexa Cuomo was fifth and Jessica Nava sixth to net huge points for the Cavaliers. NC State didn’t have a swimmer qualify for finals in the event.
