2019 World University Games Day 3 Prelims: Elise Haan, Kirill Prigoda Take Top Seeds
The 2019 World University Games opened its third day of swimming competition from Naples, Italy on Saturday.
After a few meet records fell on the first and second days, swimmers looked to keep the momentum rolling with some fast swimming on Day 3.
Men’s 200 Fly
Russia’s Aleksandr Kudashev got the third day off to a fast start, taking the top seed in the 200 fly in 1:57.30.
Americans Jack Saunderson (1:57.81) and Trenton Julian (1:57.93) took the next two spots for the semifinals.
Poland’s Michal Poprawa took the fourth seed in 1:58.13, followed by Japan’s Takumi Terada (1:58.22), Australia’s Bowen Gough (1:58.26) and Italy’s Giacomo Carini (1:58.48) and Christian Ferraro (1:58.48).

Women’s 200 IM
Great Britain’s Alicia Wilson edged Ella Eastin for the top seed in the 200 IM.
Wilson finished in 2:12.69 to finish ahead of Eastin (2:12.85).
Britain’s Abbie Wood took the third seed for today’s semifinals with a time of 2:13.59 to finish ahead of American Genevieve Pfeifer (2:13.89).
Japan’s Runa Imai took the fifth seed (2:14.66), followed by Catalina Corro Lorente (2:14.86), Italy’s Ilaria Cusinato (2:14.96) and France’s Cyrielle Duhamel (2:15.45).

Men’s 200 Breast
Russia’s Kirill Prigoda continued his strong meet by taking the top seed in the 200 breast. He finished in 2:09.99, the only swimmer in the field to break 2:10.
American Daniel Roy took the second seed in today’s semifinals with a time of 2:10.28.
Russia’s Ilia Khomenko took the third seed (2:11.14), followed by American Jonathan Tybur (2:12.25), Lithuania’s Andrius Sidlauskas (2:12.53), Switzerland’s Jacques Lauffer (2:12.70), Britain’s Craig Benson (2:12.91) and Hungary’s Mate Kutasi (2:12.91).

Women’s 100 Back
The U.S. took the top two seeds in the 100 back heading into semifinals.
Elise Haan took the top seed in the event in 1:00.51 to hold off Katharine Berkhoff (1:00.67).
Canada took the next two stops as Kennedy Goss took the third seed in 1:00.96 as Ingrid Wilm (1:00.96) matched her time.
Japan’s Marina Furubayashi took the fifth seed in 1:01.04, followed by Italy’s Silvia Scalia (1:01.29), matched by Hong Kong’s Toto Wong (1:01.29).

Men’s 50 Back
South Africa’s Zane Waddell took the top seed in the 50 back, finishing in 25.54 to hold off American Justin Ress (24.57).
Russia’s Grigory Tarasevich took the third seed in 24.91, followed by Brazil’s Gabriel Fantoni (25.00), Russia’s Mark Nikolaev (25.20), Australia’s William Yang (25.21), Belarus’ Viktar Staselovich (25.27) and Italy’s Niccolo Bonacchi (25.29).
