2019 SEC Championships Day 5 Prelims: Pickrem Returns, Takes Top Seed

The final morning of the 2019 SEC Championships is under way. There will be heats of the 200 back, 100 free and 200 breast.

Florida and Missouri are in a close race for the team title, separated by just 7.5 points heading into the final day. The Texas A&M women are in front, while Florida looks to catch up.

Women’s 200 Back

Kentucky’s Asia Seidt got the final day off to a fast start, clocking a 1:50.76 to take the top seed in the women’s 200 back.

The Kentucky junior is less than a second ahead of second-seeded Erin Falconer (1:51.43), an Auburn senior.

Auburn got the third seed as well with sophomore Sonnele Oeztuerk clocking a 1:51.94.

Tennessee freshman Sinclair Larson took the fourth seed (1:52.92), followed by South Carolina junior Emily Cornell (1:52.93), Kentucky junior Ali Galyer (1:52.97), Florida junior Sherridon Dressel (1:53.01), and Kentucky freshman Sophie Sorenson (1:53.05).

Men’s 200 Back

Florida sophomore Clark Beach made a big move as the Gators look to close out a team title. Beach dropped nearly two seconds from his seed time to take the top seed in the 200 back, clocking a 1:40.10.

Tennessee senior Joey Reilman took the second seed at 1:40.57, ahead of Texas A&M freshman Shaine Casas (1:40.63) and Georgia junior Javier Acevedo (1:40.68).

Missouri junior Nick Alexander tied Acevedo for the fourth seed, also finishing in 1:40.68.

Tennessee junior Matthew Garcia took the sixth spot at 1:40.86, followed by Missouri freshman Jack Dahlgren (1:40.99) and Florida freshman Kacper Stokowski (1:41.37).

Women’s 100 Free

Erika Brown continued to turn heads at the SEC Championships.

The Tennessee junior surged to the top seed in the 100 free, finishing in 46.68, an NCAA automatic qualifying time, just off the SEC meet record.

Missouri senior Annie Ochitwa took the second seed in 47.60, just ahead of Auburn junior Claire Fisch (47.61).

LSU senior Haylee Knight took the fourth sot at 47.98, followed by Auburn senior Aly Tetzloff (48.03), Arkansas junior Anna Hopkin (48.06), Auburn junior Julie Meynen (48.22) and Georgia junior Veronica Burchill (48.24).

Several big names were left out of the final as Texas A&M senior Claire Rasmus (48.46), Florida junior Sherridon Dressel (48.64) and Tennessee junior Stanzi Moseley (48.80) took the 9-10-11 spots.

The men’s 100 free prelims set up what looks to be an entertaining final with several swimmers all less than a second apart.

Alabama senior Robert Howard took the top seed in 41.96, the only one to break 42 during prelims.

Missouri senior Mikel Schreuders took the second seed in 42.30, the exact same time as his seed time.

Texas A&M junior Adam Koster followed with the third set at 43.28.

Florida junior Maxime Rooney took the fourth seed in 42.41, followed by Tennessee senior Kyle DeCoursey (42.45), Florida junior Khader Baqlah (42.52), Alabama junior Zane Waddell (42.56) and Kentucky junior Peter Wetzlar (42.77).

Women’s 200 Breast

Texas A&M senior Sydney Pickrem returned after an unknown medical issue that sidelined her for two days. She took the top seed in the 200 breast, finishing in 2:06.30, an NCAA automatic qualifying time.

Teammate Anna Belousova took the second seed in 2:07.52, followed by Tennessee sophomore Nikol Popov (2:07.60) and Kentucky sophomore Bailey Bonnett (2:08.16).

South Carolina senior Emma Barksdale took the fifth seed in 2:08.43, followed by Tennessee junior Tess Cieplucha (2:08.84), South Carolina junior Albury Higgs (2:09.03) and Florida freshman Vanessa Pearl (2:09.52).

Georgia senior James Guest took the second seed in 1:53.58, followed by Florida junior Grant Sanders (1:53.62)and Tennessee senior Matthew Dunphy (1:54.41).

Florida junior Marco Guarante grabbed the fifth seed (1:54.56), followed by Auburn senior Tommy Brewer (1:54.96), Georgia sophomore Jack Dalmolin (1:55.19) and Missouri senior Jordan O’Brien (1:55.59).
