During the Friday morning prelims session at the men’s ACC championships in Greensboro, N.C., NC State continued its push for a team title as junior Coleman Stewart posted the top qualifying time in both individual events he swam, breaking the 100 back ACC record in the process. Louisville also posted a strong morning, with Cardinals taking the top spot in both the 400 IM and 200 free.

Stewart opened up the meet with a 45.18 in the 100 fly, the third-fastest time in the country this year behind Florida’s Maxime Rooney (45.06) and Auburn’s Liam McCloskey (45.11). Stewart will be comfortably seeded first in the final, with Virginia’s Bryce Keblish 0.35 behind at 45.53. Another Cavalier, Zach Fong, qualified third in 45.65.

Florida State’s Kanoa Kaleoaloha took fourth in 45.66. It took under 46 seconds to crack the championship final, with NC State’s James Bretscher (45.72), Louisville’s Nicolas Albiero (45.74), NC State’s Noah Hensley (45.79) and Pitt’s Blaise Vera (45.99) also getting in.
