That also moves him all the way up to #2 in the world rankings behind only Sun Yang, who posted a 3:42.75 at the last stop of the Champions Series in Guangzhou.

In second was Mykhailo Romanchuk, who used a blistering last 50 to vault ahead of Aleksandr Krasnykh, 3:47.08 to 3:47.85.

The women’s 200 fly featured some of the top times so far this year, with Katinka Hosszu ultimately coming away with an impressive time of 2:06.62. That is the top time in the world this year and makes Hosszu the only women to swim under 2:07 in 2019.

While Hosszu was out fast, it was Great Britain’s Margaret Alys Thomas who was leading through the middle of the race, leading at both the 100 and 150-meter marks. She couldn’t hold on down the stretch however, and ended up fourth in the heat with a 2:08.52. German Franziska Hentke was second (2:07.31), followed by Boglarka Kapas (2:07.67). Hentke and Kapas times are both within the top 10 in the world this year, while Thomas’ swim sits just outside the top 10.

Chad le Clos got his first win in Budapest in the men’s 100 fly, fighting off another close field to get his hands on the wall first in 51.25. That moves him up to #2 in the world rankings, behind only Frenchman Mehdy Metella’s 50.85 from French Nationals. Just behind him was Hungarian Kristof Milak, who had posted the #1 time in the world in the 200 fly yesterday, beating le Clos in the process. He was second here in 51.67, a season best that puts him within the top 10 in the world rankings.

Teammate Lazlo Cseh was third here in 52.20, just ahead of Italian Piero Codia (52.22).

She remains the only woman to break 24 seconds in the 50 this year, sitting right ahead of Cate Campbell whose season-best is a 24.00 from the Guangzhou Champions Series stop.

In second behind Sjostrom was reigning Olympic Champion Pernille Blume, who also claimed the silver in the 100 free yesterday behind the Swede. Blume was 24.52 here, a touch slower than her season best of 24.28 from Guangzhou.

Anton Chupkov continued his strong season with another win the 200 breast, this time over world-record holder Ippei Watanabe and reigning Olympic gold medalist Dmitriy Balandin. Chupkov used his typical back-half strategy to take the race, sitting in last at the 50 mark before out-splitting the rest of the field on the last three 50’s to take the win in 2:08.23. Watanabe was with Chupkov the whole way, touching just behind him in 2:08.61. Both men have been faster already this year and sit first and second in the world rankings, with Chupkov currently leading the world rankings with a 2:07.00 and Watanabe right behind with a 2:07.02.

Balandin ended up back in third after leading the first 50, touching in 2:10.73. American Josh Prenot rounded out the heat with a 2:11.60.
