The second night of finals from the 2019 ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro was a short one but saw plenty of fast swims. NC State broke the meet record in the 200 free relay at the end of the night and also put up the top time in the nation in the event. The team of Ky-lee PerryKylee AlonsSirena Rowe and Sophie Hansson won the final with a huge 1:26.15.

Louisville’s Mallory Comerford won her last 500 free title with a 4:34.63 for a huge new best time as she also leads the NCAA in the event. Comerford indicated in her post race interview though that that was her last 500 ever, so she most likely will do the 50 free at NCAAs instead.

NC State’s Julia Poole won the 200 IM and Virginia’s Morgan Hill won the 50 free.

500 Free

Louisville senior Mallory Comerford dropped a huge 4:34.63 to lower her best time by a second to win the ACC title in the 500 free. Comerford led from start to finish as she collected 32 valuable points for the Cardinals. She finished ahead of Virginia’s Paige Madden (4:38.13) and NC State’s Kate Moore (4:39.10).

Comerford now has the fastest time in the nation this year, but she noted in her post race interview that she is done with the 500 for her career. That means she will probably do the 50 free instead of the 500 at NCAAs.

Virginia Tech’s Reka Gyorgy (4:41.51), NC State’s Tamila Holub (4:41.53), NC State’s Anna Jahns (4:43.59), Duke’s Easop Lee (4:43.76) and Notre Dame’s Abbie Dolan (4:44.73) also swam in the final.

200 Free Relay

NC State scorched the Greensboro Aquatic Center in the 200 free relay on Thursday night at the ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The Wolfpack swam a 1:26.15 to win the relay by almost a second and a half over Louisville (1:27.45). NC State smashed the ACC and meet record that Virginia broke last year at 1:26.67. The swim also broke Cal’s pool record of 1:26.41 from the 2015 NCAAs.

Ky-lee Perry (21.58), Kylee Alons (21.19), Sirena Rowe (21.42) and Sophie Hansson (21.96) put up the top time in the country in the 200 free relay as they are ahead of Tennessee’s 1:26.51 from SECs last night. Perry’s time would have won the 50 free earlier in the night as she was out-touched at the finish by Morgan Hill of Virginia.

Perry’s time was just off of the ACC meet record held by Virginia’s Caitlin Cooper of 21.54 from 2018. North Carolina’s Caroline Baldwin holds the ACC overall record of 21.48 from 2017.

Louisville finished in second and Virginia was third at 1:28.60.

The fastest splits outside of NC State came from Louisville’s Mallory Comerford (21.17), Louisville’s Casey Fanz (21.71), Duke’s Maddie Hess (21.85) and Notre Dame’s Abbie Dolan (21.95).
