2019 ACC Men’s Swimming Championships: NC State Sets 400 Medley Relay Meet Record with 44.36 Stewart Leadoff
NC State Junior Coleman Stewart tied his own ACC and Meet Record in the 100 Backstroke final on the third night of competition at the 2019 ACC Men’s Swimming Championships. He was also the runner-up in the 100 Butterfly behind Florida State’s Kanoa Kaleoaloha. To end the session, Stewart re-broke the mark in the leadoff leg of the 400 Medley Relay.
Virginia senior Brendan Casey and Louisville teammates Bartosz Piszczorowicz and Evgenii Somov held onto their top seeds from the preliminaries in the 400 IM, 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, respectively.
With one day remaining, NC State has the lead with 919.5 points. They are currently followed by Louisville with 784 and Virginia with 695.

100 Butterfly
Florida State’s Kanoa Kaleoaloha dropped a 44.93 to win the 100 Butterfly. The senior did not make the A final in this event last year where he swam a 46.16 for tenth. Out nearly-even at the fifty, he was able to edge out NC State’s Coleman Stewart who earned runner-up honors in 45.09. The swim is Stewart’s second best swim of his career.
Teammate Noah Hensley had a similar battle for third with Louisville sophomore Nicolas Albiero. Hensley took the race 45.33 to 45.37. Both men were under last year’s NCAA invited time.
Bryce Keblish and Zachary Fong of Virginia took fifth and sixth, respectively in 45.51 and 45.70. NC State’s James Bretscher (45.88) and Pittsburgh’s Blaise Vera (46.29) rounded out the heat.

NC State’s team of Stewart, Daniel Graber, Nyls Korstanje and Giovanni Izzo narrowly edged out the Louisville squad of Albiero, Somov, Harting and Barna 3:03.26 to 3:03.75. Despite a charging 41.50 split from Barna, the Cardinals did not quite have enough to catch NC State after a solid lead built at the 200 mark. Stewart’s leadoff split of 44.36 was a best time and new ACC Record, while the overall swim broke the Meet Record as well. Clark, Barnum, Keblish and Baker took home the bronze medal for Virginia in 3:05.14.
