2018 UANA Open Water Championships Begin with 2.5K Relays

The 2018 UANA Open Water Championships splashed into action today with the 2.5K junior and masters relays. The relays were the beginning of a multi-day event in the Cayman Islands, featuring swim clinics and more open water races.

A total of six teams participated in the junior 2.5K relay, with Peru’s A team taking home the victory. The team of A. CastroA. Serida, G. Ccollcca, and N. Rojas delivered a combined time of 33:08.7 for the gold.

Finishing second in the junior relay race was the A Team from the Cayman Islands. Team members J. Bodden, E. Sinclair, L. Henry, and K. Rabess posted a time of 35:47.8 for the silver.

Two teams from the Cayman Islands entered the 2.5K masters relay race. A.Killam-Higgo, K. Eckart, J. Prinsloo, and B. McFarland posted a first-place finish of 46:24.3, while the team of M. Trott, M. Ford, M. Lockwood, and A. Royston were second with a 47:06.6.

The 2018 UANA Open Water Championships continue on Saturday, June 16th with the Flowers One Mile Sea Swim, while the 5K and 10K races will take place on Monday, June 18th.
