piero-codia-

2018 European Champion Piero Codia from Italy will swim with the Aqua Centurions later this fall as a part of the debut season of the International Swimming League. Codia was a late addition to the roster that was announced last week. The roster includes many of the best swimmers from Europe including Gabriele DettiKristian GkolomeevAlessandro Miressi and Federica Pellegrini with Pellegrini serving as the team captain.

Codia was the European Champion in 2018 in the 100 butterfly, which he won from lane eight. His time of 50.64 was the second fastest in the world for 2018 behind only Caeleb Dressel’s (50.50) time from Nationals. Codia had the fastest time from anyone at any of the major international meets last summer including the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and Pan Pacs. He also sits ninth all-time in the 100 fly and has the fourth fastest time of anyone in Europe.

Codia is 29-years-old and is joining a team that is primarily made up of Italians. He is currently 12th in the world rankings in the 100 fly at 51.75. He will be competing with his ISL team at the first two scheduled stops in Indianapolis and Naples in October.
