Jacob Pebley, Ryan Murphy Lead 200 Back Field at 2017 AT&T Winter Nationals:
The fourth and final prelims session of the 2017 USA Swimming AT&T Winter Nationals has come to a close. Today’s session featured many of the usual suspects claiming top seeds in the longer stroke events.
Cal boys, Jacob Pebley and Ryan Murphy, topped the competition in prelims of the men’s 200 back, while Ali Galyer topped the women’s event. Mallory Comerford dashed to the top of the women’s 100 free, just as Michael Chadwick did on the men’s sdie
Additional top seeds include Kelsi Worrell, Breeja Larson, Noah Lense, and a tie for first between Cody Miller and Reece Whitley.

Women’s 200 Back
Ali Galyer flirted with a sub-1:52 swim in prelims of the women’s 200 back, claiming the top seed with a time of 1:53.01. She was joined in the 1:53 range by Bridgette Alexander, who qualified second overall for finals with a 1:53.71.
The third place seed was claimed by Alina Kendzior and her time of 1:55.01, followed closely by Kristen Romano (1:55.04) and Melanie Margalis (1:55.05).
Alexa Kutch (1:55.21), Ashlyn Schoof (1:55.37), and Emma Muzzy (1:56.47) qualified sixth through eighth.

Men’s 200 Back
Former Cal teammates Jacob Pebley and Ryan Murphy posted the top two qualifying times in the men’s 100 back. Pebley earned the top seed with a time of 1:42.02, while Murphy qualified second with a 1:42.54.
Grigory Tarasevich grabbed the the third place seed with a time of 1:43.14, qualifying just ahead of Bryce Bohman and his time of 1:43.35.
The fifth place seed was picked up by Nikolaos Sofianidis (1:43.75), while the sixth place seed went to Nicolas Albiero’s 1:43.77.
Corey Main (1:43.98) and Chase Kalisz (1:44.13) completed the top eight qualifiers.

Women’s 100 Free
Louisville’s Mallory Comerford dashed to a 47.23 in prelims of the women’s 100 free, earning herself the top seed in tonight’s finals. She was joined beneath the 48-second mark by Margo Geer (47.54) and former teammate Kelsi Worrell (47.70).
Amanda Kendall picked up the fourth place seed with a time of 48.72, followed by Olivia Smoliga and her time of 48.73.
Isabel Ivey (48.91), Casey Fanz (48.96), and Jackie Keire (49.31) rounded out the top eight.

Men’s 100 Free
Michael Chadwick, the top seed going into the men’s 100 free, maintained his top seed with a time of 42.49. He was joined under the 43-second mark by Joshua Fleagle and his time of 42.73.
The third and fourth place seeds were scooped up by Matias Koski and Nathan Adrian, who posted close times of 43.04 and 43.07 respectively.
Jesse Novak picked up the fifth place seed with a qualifying time of 43.96, while Andrej Barna was sixth with a 44.05.
Also qualifying for tonight’s ‘A’ final were Michael Andrew (44.07) and Andrew Loy (44.14).

Women’s 200 Breast
Breeja Larson powered to the top of the qualifier’s list in prelims of the women’s 200 breast, stopping the clock at a top time of 2:07.94. Andrea Cottrell posted the second fastest time of the morning, delivering a 2:08.92 from heat four.
Lina Rathsack grabbed the third place seed with a time of 2:10.31, followed by Maria Astashkina’s 2:10.56.
Anne Lazor and Bailey Bonnett delivered closely qualifying times, posting times of 2:10.87 and 2:10.91 respectively.
The top eight qualifiers were rounded out by Lauren James (2:11.28) and Morgan Friesen (2:11.45).

Men’s 200 Breast
In a stunning turn of events, the top seed for the men’s 200 breast is split between two swimmers. Cody Miller, Olympic gold medalist, and Reece Whitley, high school senior All-Star, posted matching times of 1:54.05 to share the top seed.
Nick Zito picked up a close third place seed, turning in a time of 1:54.23, while Carlos Claverie snagged fourth with a time of 1:54.49.
The fifth place seed was grabbed by Nicolas Fink and his time of 1:54.54, just ahead of Josh Prenot’s 1:56.02.
Michael Andrew and Casey Storch qualified seventh and eighth with times of 1:57.22 and 1:58.32 respectively.

Women’s 200 Fly
Kelsi Worrell dominated the competition in the women’s 200 fly. The Olympic and World swimmer finished with a time of 1:52.59, over three seconds ahead of the competition.
Grace Oglesby picked up the second place seed with a time of 1:56.02, just ahead of Meg Bailey and her time of 1:56.72.
The fourth place seed was claimed by Hannah Saiz, who posted a qualifying time of 1:57.48, while Haley McInerny collected the fifth place seed with a time of 1:57.76.
Carley Lowe and Madeline Laporte delivered matching times of 1:59.13 to qualify as tied for sixth, followed by Isabella Gati and her time of 1:59.43.

Men’s 200 Fly
Noah Lense flew ahead of the competition in prelims of the men’s 200 fly, stopping the clock at a top qualifying time of 1:44.31. He was followed to the wall by a quad of 1:45s.
Brendan Burns led the quad of 1:45s, picking up the second place seed with a time of 1:45.13. He was followed closely by qualifying times from Jarrett Jones (1:45.51) and Max Irwin (1:45.82).
The fifth place seed was claimed by Zach Harting and his time of 1:45.82, while Michael Salazar took sixth with a time of 1:46.14.
Henrique Painhas and Philip Manoff qualified seventh and eighth with times of 1:46.38 and 1:46.84.
