Jack LeVant, Dakota Luther Impressive in Prelims at Speedo Junior Nationals
The third morning session at Speedo Junior Nationals in East Meadow, N.Y., featured only two events each in the women’s and men’s competition. Top seeds included Easop Lee and Jack LeVant in the 400 free and Dakota Luther and Shaine Casas in the 100 fly, and LeVant and Luther could each make runs at long-standing meet records in the final.
Women’s 400 Free
North Baltimore’s Easop Lee edged out Pleasanton’s Miranda Heckman to win the final heat of the women’s 400 free, and that duo ended up claiming the top two seeds for the championship final. Lee clocked 4:14.91, and Heckman swam a time of 4:15.06.
In heat eight of nine, four women all finished in the 4:16-range, and all booked finals spots. La Mirada Armada’s Taylor Ault (4:16.10) touched out The Fish’s Madelyn Donohoe (4:16.20) and Lakeside’s Lauren Pitzer (4:16.29), while Greater Tampa’s Morgan Tankersley finished just behind at 4:16.67.
Sandpipers’ Erica Sullivan, who won the 400 free at U.S. Open one week ago in 4:09.43, qualified seventh in 4:17.38, and Central Bucks’ Morgan Scott rounded out the final with her time of 4:17.95.
