While there are many well-known names listed to swim tonight, there are also several well-known names not listed. Many of Team USA’s veteran men have elected not to swim in the 100 free after not qualifying for the ‘A’ final. Those names include Matt GreversCullen Jones, and Conor Dwyer. Also scratching out of the 100 free was Cal’s Jacob Pebley.

Tom Shields, a 2016 Olympian, missed out on the ‘A’ final in prelims and has now scratched out of the ‘B’ final. Shields will rest up for his best event, the 100 fly.

Additionally, Michigan’s top female distance swimmer, G Ryan, will no longer be swimming in the fastest heat of the women’s 800 free, shifting Purdue’s Kaersten Meitz up into the top eight.
