Brandonn Almeida, who already had a 4:14.07 Olympic qualifying time to his credit from the Brazil Open in December, cruised to a 4:14.63 to win the distance medley event tonight.  That swim put him 10th in the world this year.

China’s Wang Yizhe finished second tonight in 4:20.86, while Leonardo Coelho took third overall in 4:21.17.

Caio Rodrigues (4:24.88), Icaro Pereira (4:28.72), Leonardo Calice (4:30.16) and Marcelo Pereira (4:36.98) claimed fourth through eighth.  Japan’s Kakeru Murata had a 4:20.55 swimming exhibition.

With two swimmers already clearing the FINA A cut this morning (Daiene Dias, 58.04; Etiene Medeiros, 58.49), it’s just a matter of seeing if anyone can beat those times.  Medeiros, however, decided to scratch finals, doubting any other Brazilian would be able to beat her time for the second spot on the Olympics.

That was a bad decision as Dias won the finale in 58.07, while Daynara De Paula claimed second in 58.38 – ahead of Medeiros’ Olympic qualifying time of 58.49.

Li Shuang posted a 59.57 for third, while Natalia De Luccas placed fourth in 59.81.

Caroline Bruna (59.87), Giovanna Tomanik (1:00.39), Katarina Listopadova (58.71) and Barbora Misendova (1:00.00) also competed in the finale.

Martin Carrizo picked up second-place honors in a time of 3:54.45, while Giovanny Lima took third in 3:54.61.

Fernando Scheffer (3:56.63), Alexandre Finco (3:57.00), Marcos Oliveira (3:57.08), Guilherme Costa (3:57.46) and Lucas Kanieski (3:58.80) also competed in the finale.
