The second night of action at the 2016 Chinese Nationals is complete.

Chen Xinyi put her stamp on the women’s 100-meter fly this evening, while the controversial Wang Lizhuo cruised to victory in the men’s 100-meter breast.

Finals:

Chen Xinyi claimed the top spot in the women’s 100-meter fly with a 56.82.  That put her second in the world behind only Sarah Sjostrom’s 55.68 from the Swedish Open.  Lu Ying raced to second in 57.17 for third in the world, as the top two swimmers both cleared the FINA A cut.

Zhang Yufei placed third in 57.99 to move to 11th in the world, while Zhou Yilin wound up fourth in 58.16.

Wang Lizhuo, one of three swimmers to draw just a warning after taking the banned substance clenbuterol last summer, won the men’s 100-meter breast in a 59.69.  That’s just off his national record swim of 59.64 from semis yesterday.

China will have to make a decision in terms of its second men’s 100-meter breast spot on the Olympic squad as Li Xiang and Yan Zibei tied for second with matching 1:00.19s.  Yan, however, had a faster semifinal swim with a sixth-ranked 59.94, which could be used as a tie-breaker.

Xin Xin surged to victory in the women’s 400-meter free with a top time of 4:05.68.  That swim shot her to fifth in the world rankings.  Cao Yue snared the likely second spot in the Olympics with a 4:07.12 to move to 10th in the world.  Zhang Yuhan finished just behind with a third-place time of 4:07.30.

In relay action, Beijing Water Cube won the men’s 400-meter free relay in 3:18.41.  Guangdong took second in 3:18.95 with Shanghai finishing third in 3:21.29.

Semifinals:

Wang Shun posted the top time of semis in a 1:48.68 in the men’s 200-meter free, while Qiu Ziao posted a 1:48.71 for the second seed. Xu Qiheng raced to the third seed in 1:48.73.

Yu Jingyao clocked a 1:07.53 to lead the way in the women’s 100-meter breast, moving her up to 12th in the world rankings.  Shi Jinglin clocked a 1:07.68 for the second seed.

Xu Jiayu turned in a 53.69 to lead the way in the men’s 100-meter back.  That swim was a bit off Xu’s fourth-ranked season best of 53.39 from the Aquatic Super Series.  Li Guangyuan qualified second in 54.19.

Cheng Haihua paced semis with a time of 59.55 in the women’s 100-meter back.  That swim moved Chen up to fifth in the world rankings.  Chen Jie (1:00.43) and Liu Xiang (1:00.50) qualified second and third.
