The 2016 State Teams Age Short Course Championships is returning to the Nation’s Capital from tomorrow, Friday 23 September to Sunday 25 September at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

The States and Territories will go head-to-head in a team based competition that will see some of the best age group swimmers from around Australia race in individual and relay events to collect points for their respective teams.

Currently Queensland are the defending champions, having won the event every year since its inception in 2009 but with rising stars popping up all over the country, a new state could reign supreme this year.

Junior Pan Pacific Championship representative Julia Hawkins who won bronze in both the 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relays will be flying the flag for Victoria, looking to steal top spot in the sprint events.

While in the men’s events Victoria will have Daniel Cave, who impressed at the Australian Swimming Championships this year making the final of the men’s 200m breaststroke.

New South Wales will have Australian Age Champion and fellow Junior Pan Pacific Championships bronze medallist Leon Macalister as well as Australian age champion Zachary Attard on their side.

Swimmers from New Zealand will also be in attendance and while our neighbouring nation can’t win the State Teams Short Course Title their swimmers will be eligible for the ‘Swimmer of the Meet’ Awards.

It will be a battle for bragging rights and your chance to see the next generation of swimming superstars in action.

The sessions will run from 4:30pm on Friday and Saturday afternoon and 9:30am on Saturday and Sunday mornings with entry open and free to the public.

Come and cheer on the next generation of stars, all the information you need is here: http://www.swimming.org.au/Events/2016-State-Teams-Age-SC.aspx.
