2016 Arena Pro Swim Series: Santa Clara Day 1 Prelims – Results

Women’s 200 Freestyle

Australian women took the top two seeds this morning. Emma McKeon posted a 1:57.57, well off her world’s second 1:54.83, but still over a second ahead of the field. Bronte Barratt cruised to a 1:58.61, far from her eighth ranked 1:55.95.

Chelsea Chenault and Ella Eastin tied for the third seed in 1:59.68.

Maya Dirado (1:59.75) and Madison Wilson (1:59.87) also slid under two minutes.

Madeline Groves (2:00.21), Jessica Ashwood (2:00.45), and Camille Cheng (2:00.79) also qualified for tonight’s A final.

Men’s 200 Freestyle

Sun Yang cracked the world’s top ten with his 1:46.34. That swim earned him the top seed, well ahead of the field. Conor Dwyer swam a 1:48.90 for second.

Maxime Rooney (1:49.66) and Zhi Yong Qian (1:49.84) were also under 1:50.

David McKeon (1:50.05) returns fifth. Kyle Chalmer and Long Gutierrez tied for the sixth seed in 1:50.31. Markus Thormeyer (1:50.54) and Liam Etgan (1:51.15) wer the final qualifiers for tonight’s A final.

Women’s 100 Breaststroke

Sarah Haase climbed from outside the top 20 to seventh in the world this year with a stunning 1:06.31 this morning. That was a best time by 1.22 seconds.

Jessica Hardy finished second in 1:08.41, over a second from her year’s best 1:07.09. Australia’s Georgia Bohl qualified third in 1:08.96, far from her world’s fourth 1:06.12.

Fresh off swims at last weekend’s Mel Zajac InviteMartha McCabe qualified fourth in 1:10.45. Fifth seed went to Grace Zhao in 1:11.87.

Danielle Herrmann (1:11.98), Maija Roses (1:12.04), MC Schillinger (1:12.12), and Heidi Poppe (1:12.89) complete tonight’s A final.

Top seeded, much anticipated Yulia Efimova did not swim.

Josh Prenot stopped the clock in 1:01.11 to grab the top spot. Azad Al-Barazi swam a 1:01.89 for the second seed. Jimmy Deiparine (1:02.08) and Tales Cerdeira (1:02.11) qualified third and fourth.

BJ Johnson and Marcut Titus both touched in 1:02.29 for fifth.

Thiago Pereira (1:02.42), Chuk Katis (1:02.66), and Connor Hoppe (1:02.70) complete the A final.

Women’s 100 Butterfly

Canadian Noemie Thomas touched in 58.37 this morning, in another tune up swim before she makes her Olympic debut. That time earned her the top seed for tonight.

Australian teammates Emma McKeon and Madeline Groves finished one behind another, just as they did at Australian Nationals, this time in 58.74 and 59.22.

Farida Osman stopped the clock in 59.33 and Janey Hu posted a 59.75.

Stanford swimmers Felicia Lee (59.75)Maya DiRado (59.79), Ella Eastin (1:00.17), and Ally Howe (1:00.23) also qualified for tonight’s championship final.

Cal swimmers swept the top 3 spots for tonight’s final. Seth Stubblefield led the way in 52.58, ahead of Tom Shields in 52.66 and Justin Lynch in 52.91.

Giles Smith (53.32), Marcos Antonio Macedo (53.35), Kaio Almeida (53.53), Andrew Liang (53.62), Kyle VanSwol (53.63), and Long Gutierrez (53.93) earned seeds four through nine.

Caitlin Leverenz of the Cal Bears took the top seed for tonight, posting a 4:41.10. Cal teammate Celina Li finished third overall in 4:50.95. Keryn McMaster stopped the clock in 4:42.17 for the second fastest time of the morning.

Sarah Darcel touched fourth (4:51.89) and Sarah-Lee Hevey (4:53.40) was fifth.

Chenoa Devine (4:54.86), Miranda Heckman (4:55.03), Leah Stevens (4:56.05), and Chloe Isleta (4:58.26) complete tonight’s A final.
