11 Meet Records Fall on Night Two of 2018 CSCAA NIT

After Denver dominated the first night of competition at the 2018 CSCAA NIT, their women’s team continued to roll by placing several swimmers into A final positions while the Incarnate Wood men stepped up on night two by nabbing two A final victories to their point total.

Beyond team scores, a total of 11 meet records were smashed this evening with many including several swimmers dipping under the old record in their respective events.

Kicking off the meet in the women’s 200 medley relay was San Jose’s quartet of Colleen Humel (25.03), Shona Spikes (28.73), Brenna Bushey (23.45) and Brittany Heng (22.49) who produced a new meet record time of 1:39.70, a full second ahead of the old record held by Western Kentucky. South Carolina (1:40.49) and FIU (1:40.69) were both under the old record as well.

The Denver men won their 200 medley relay A final in a time of 1:28.00 ahead of La Salle who swam a 1:28.67 ahead of CSUB who threw down a 1:29.79.

Rolling into the individual events, Rice senior Kaitlyn Swinney took the win in the women’s 400 IM with a 4:11.43 ahead of FIU’s Stephanie Hussey (4:15.58) and Tulane’s Olivia Johnson (4:15.63).

South Carolina’s Jackson Smith solidified himself as the only man under the 3:50 barrier in tonight’s men’s 400 IM A final by swimming a 3:49.59 in front of Navy’s William Cadigan (3:50.88) and SIUC’s Christopher Cole (3:52.94).

Smith’s teammate, Christina Lappin, lowered her own meet record in the women’s 100 fly from this morning’s prelims by posting a time of 53.18, which was just ahead of Denver’s Heidi Bradley who swam a 53.27. Touching third in the race was Brenna Bushey in 53.39.

The men’s 200 free featured an impressive victory along with a new meet record set by A final champion Kyrylo Shvets who swam a 1:37.07 to dip under the old meet record of 1:37.37. Taking second and third, respectively was DU’s Colin Gilbert (1:37.15) and Moritz Fath (1:37.23).

San Jose State came back with a win in the women’s 100 back with Colleen Humel touching first in 52.53, which dipped under the old meet record of 53.13 set in 2014. Touching in second was Richmond’s Hannah Gouger 53.57 while Boise State’s Ally Kleinsorgen nabbed third in 54.11.

GW took the win in the men’s 800 free relay by throwing down a new meet record time of 6:31.75, ahead of South Carolina who put together a 6:34.73 while Incarnate Wood’s squad threw together a 6:36.03 for third place overall.
