NCAA Div. I Women: Rice Dominates Houston

HOUSTON, Jan. 19. THE Rice women's swim team won every event it entered to capture the dual meet with cross-town rival Houston on Saturday at UH Natatorium.

The Owls won all 11 swimming events and finished 1-2 in eight of those to outscore the Cougars 149-88.

Freshman Corrie Kristick won three events — the 500 and 1650 freestyle and the 400 individual medley — and junior Mandy Mularz won two (the 50 and 100 freestyle) to lead the Owl attack. Mularz also swam the leadoff leg of the 200 medley relay.

Sophomore Toni Ciffolilli swam a Rice season-best 2:08.09 to finish first in the 200 backstroke.

Olympian Yulia Pakhalina won both diving events for Houston.

Rice improves to 2-1-1 in dual meets and will host its first dual meet of the season on Friday, Jan. 25, against SMU.
