1999 USC Invitational: Day 1 -- October 30, 1999
LOS ANGELES, CA - USC freshman women's swimmer Michala Kwasny and Mission Viejo's Chad Carvin both posted pool records in the first day of the USC Invitational on Friday (Oct. 29) at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium.
Kwasny posted a 1:59.37 to win the 200-yard IM and Carvin posted his record time in the 500-yard free, swimming a 4:20.31. Carvin's time broke a record that stood for more than 13 years.
USC freshman Erik Vendt's time of 4:20.48 in the 500y free would have also broken the old mark of 4:20.51 set by Stanford's Jeff Kostoff in 1986. As it was, Vendt's time was an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Kwasny's time in the 200y IM was also an NCAA automatic.
