YMCA Short Course Nationals: Margo Geer On Fire, Hali Flickinger Also Sets YMCA Record

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, April 9. SPRINGFIELD's Margo Geer cleared her fourth YMCA record of the YMCA Short Course Nationals this evening. Overall, eight YMCA records have fallen in three days of swimming.

Geer clocked a smoking fast time of 48.89 in the women's 100 free. That time cleared 49 seconds and the 49.02 YMCA record she shared previously with Emily Lloyd. Lloyd, of Anne Arundel, finished second in 49.75, while Wilton's Shelby Fortin claimed third in 50.52.

York's Hali Flickinger opened the night in style with a YMCA record in the women's 400 IM. She clocked a 4:12.51 to clip Corinne Showalter's 2009 record of 4:12.76. Northwest's Kelly Ann Baird finished a distant second in 4:17.91, while York's Julia Kucherich placed third in 4:18.21.

Middle Tyger's David Ingraham took home the men's 400 IM title in 3:53.00. Spokane's Mason Shaw wound up second din 3:55.08, while West North Carolina's Nathan Hart took third overall in 3:55.64. Mitchell Friedemann of Schroeder claimed the men's 100 free title in 44.24. Elkins' Tim Squires touched second in 44.67, while Triangle Area's Joe Bonk picked up third in 45.20.

Middle Tyger's Annie Gillig pocketed the women's 200 back title in 1:56.32, while Fortin took her second podium of the night with a 1:58.90. West Monmouth's Emily O'Neill earned third overall in 1:59.12. Countryside's Steven Zimmerman nearly picked off Patrick Schirck's YMCA record from 2005 of 1:44.25 in the men's 200 back. Zimmerman settled for the win in 1:44.79. Downtown Youth's Connor Maher finished second in 1:47.06, while Lakeland Hills' Luke Papendick placed third in 1:47.64.

In relay action, Sarasota's Rachel Harrington, Danielle Valley, Ashlee Linn and Katheryne Muth won the women's 800 free relay in 7:20.85. Upper Main Line's Matthew Salig, Thomas Mershon, Matt Luminais and Nathan Reed topped the men's 800 free relay in 6:42.01.
