World’s Largest Water Polo Tournament Hits Los Angeles This Weekend

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California, July 26. FOR the first time in the history of the world's largest water polo tournament the S & R Sport Junior Olympics hits Los Angeles, California.

Using facilities from two Olympic Games along with several other world class pools all within a 25 mile radius, the City of Angels will welcome over 5000 athletes ages 10-18 and more than 370 clubs starting with the boys on July 31-August 3 and concluding with the girls and the 10 and Under Co-ed division August 5-8. Each team will have the chance to play at multiple venues with the opportunity to experience a variety of settings in and around the Southland. For the third year the Platinum and Gold flights of play remain intact with teams qualifying for each respective division during the first day of play. Age group and gender champions will come from the Platinum flight and additionally each age group and gender will have a winner in the Gold flight. Consultation with water polo veterans following the 2009 tourney has led to a streamlined schedule in 2010 that will make the advancement process easy to follow. Lastly, in 2010, each team will play in either 7 or 8 games depending on their day one performance in their respective tournaments.

USA Water Polo will host our 3rd Annual JO Expo the highlight of which is a chance for rising high school seniors to meet with collegiate water polo coaches from around the country. There will be separate events for boys and girls the day before competition begins for each gender. Set for July 30 for boys and August 4 for girls the event has grown in attendance since it's start in 2008.

In 2010 the Junior Olympics will be full of water polo excitement but also fun for the whole family. USA Water Polo has secured a host of discounted entertainment options in the heart of Los Angeles.

Universal Studios Hollywood will be offering specially priced tickets for all USA Water Polo members during the Junior Olympics. ESPN will be staging their annual X Games throughout LA and tickets are available through our Travel and Entertainment site. LA Live, the newest addition to downtown dining and entertainment will be rolling out the red carpet with special offers and group dining opportunities for competing teams. Last but not least the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA are hosting a special USA Water Polo night on August 4 during the game against Chicago Sky with specially priced tickets for all USA Water Polo members.
