World Junior Champion Gabrielle Fa’amausili, 13, Blasts New Zealand Age Group Record

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, October 1. GABRIELLE Fa’amausili earned top billing this evening at the New Zealand State Short Course Championships as the 13-year-old World Junior champion blasted her New Zealand age group record in the 50-meter freestyle.

“I’m so excited. It’s such a privilege to race people like Lauren Boyle and Hayley Palmer. It’s just great, I feel awesome,” said Fa’amausili. “I wanted to go into every race being confident, feeling good, and just wanting to win.”

Meanwhile, Kurt Crosland checked in with his second victory of the meet as the 29-year-old clocked a 1:58.05 to top the men’s 200-meter IM. Bradlee Ashby (1:58.70) and Steven Kent (2:00.37) took second and third in the finale. Ashby’s time stands up as a national age group record for New Zealand.
