LA JOLLA, Calif., Jan. 20. THE UC San Diego swimming and diving teams split a dual meet with Division II rival, UC Davis, at UCSD's Canyonview Pool Sunday.
The Triton women edged the Aggies after being down early, 154.5-145.5, while UCSD was defeated by UCD on the men's side, 200-93.
The UCSD women's team rebounded nicely from a 139-94 loss at Division I UCLA on Saturday. Aggie swimmers took seven of the first 10 events before theTritons rallied, winning the next four events and five of the last six to come from behind. J
unior Rosanna Delurgio and freshman Sophie Levy each won a pair of events for UCSD, with Delurgio victorious in the 100 yard Breast (1:06.96) and 200 Breast (2:22.71), and Levy finishing tops in the 1000 Free (10:29.69) and 500 Free (5:06.90).
Other event winners for UCSD were senior co-captain Jennifer Watanabe in the 100 Back (59.61), freshmen Sarah Grant in the 100 Fly (1:00.20) and Jennifer Margrave on the three-meter diving board.
The Triton foursome of senior Samantha Wong, junior Carolyn Kwok and sophomores Heather Hearon and Elaine Engel brought the women's meet to a close with a victory in the 200 Free Relay in 1:38.57.
Yuka Kobayashi had a tremendous day for the visiting Aggies, with wins in the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free, 100 Free and 400 IM.
On the men's side, sophomore Michael Baier was the lone Triton winner in the individual events, swimming 4:12.51 to take top honors in the 400 IM. Senior co-captain Dagart Allison and sophomores Danny Behrens, Brady Gosling and Mark Tate raced 1:28.25 to finish first in the 200 Free Relay.
The win for the women improved their dual record to 3-2 on the season, while the Triton men remained winless at 0-4.
The UCSD swimming and diving teams will be in action in one final home meet for the season, next Saturday afternoon. The first race at Canyonview Pool is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
