Danielle de Bruijn of The Netherlands and Peter Biros of Hungary put together such incredible years that they would not be denied for our top honor in the sport.

In one of the greatest individual performances in Olympic history, de Bruijn scored seven goals in the gold medal match against the U.S. Additionally, de Bruijn scored 17 goals during the entire Olympic tournament, easily the most among all goal scorers.

Biros, meanwhile, was among the top players of Hungary's Magnificent Six, Gergely Kiss, Tamas Kasas, Tibor Benedeck, Tamas Molnar and Zoltan Scezi. That core group led Hungary to its third straight gold medal victory. In Beijing, Biros led all Olympic scorers with a 56.5 percent shooting percentage by scoring on 13 of 23 attempts.
