For the fifth straight year, the Stanford Cardinal have won the 400 medley at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The Cardinal won the title with a new American and NCAA Record in the process at 3:25.09. Stanford remains undefeated in the swimming pool as the team has won every single swimming event through Thursday night.

Ally Howe (50.34), Kim Williams (58.59), Janet Hu (50.36) and Simone Manuel (45.80) broke the NCAA Record at 3:25.09 as they got everything they could handle from Indiana in the race, who placed second at 3:26.09. The Hoosiers were second thanks to Ally Rockett (51.31), Lilly King (56.02), Christie Jensen (51.13) and Kennedy Goss (47.63). King’s split is the fastest breaststroke split ever.

California (3:26.86), Louisville (3:26.93), Minnesota (3:28.34), Texas (3:30.61) and Texas A&M (3:30.80) placed in the top eight.

The top splits were from Howe, King, Noemie Thomas (50.25) and Mallory Comerford (45.74).

Tennessee was originally sixth with a 3:29.17, but was disqualified for their freestyle leg kicking on her back.

There were also some solid splits from Beata Nelson (49.83) and Louise Hansson (49.24) in the B-Final as Nelson swam backstroke and Hansson swam butterfly.

This is Stanford’s fifth straight NCAA title in the event as Howe and Hu have been on the last four of the winning relays. It is also Stanford’s 14th overall title in the event. They previously won the relay at NCAA’s in 1987, 1990-1993, 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002.
