Panthers Down Mavericks, 169-121

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa, November 17. THE University of Northern Iowa women's swim defeated Minnesota State University, Mankato, 169-121, raising it's dual meet record to 2-5.

The Panthers won 11 of 16 events and sent their second freshman of the season into the record books, as well as earned an improved time for freshman Abby Girard (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls), already appearing in the records in three events.

Freshman Amanda Firman (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) made her way into the record books with her first-place finish in the 50-yard free. Her finishing time was 24.65, moving in to second in the top five times and easily within reach of number one, which is 24.60, set by Sarah Hansvick in 2002. Firman also won the 100-yard free with a finishing time of 54.27.

Other dual wins went to Katie Klinkenborg (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) in the 100-yard and 200-yard fly and Rachael Robnett (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Lake City) in the 200-yard free and the 200-yard breast.

The Panther with the big points for the night was Girard. She finished first in the 100-yard and 200-yard back and the 200 IM, earning a total of 24 points.

Panthers also excelled in relays, claiming 24 points total from the 400-yard medley relay and 400-yard free relay. Girard, Robnett, Klinkenborg, and Firman made up the first-place finishing 400 medley relay team, 4:08.17. In the 400 free relay, Maggie Rickert (Hudson, Iowa/Hudson), Robnett, Ashley Hunter (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North), and Firman raced in to first at 3:40.77.
?The Panthers will be back in action Saturday (Dec. 2) at Iowa State University. The meet will start at 1 p.m
