Northwestern Trails Iowa 99-97 After Day One of Senior Meet

IOWA CITY, Iowa, February 9. FIFTEENTH-ranked Northwestern trails Iowa 99-97 after the first day of the two-day competition at the UI Field House Pool in the annual Senior Meet.

Two more pool records fell at the hands of the Wildcats. Senior Mark Hamming set an Iowa pool record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:46.22.

Hamming's time removes former NU standout Kellan O'Connor from the top spot in the 200 fly. Senior Tony Swanson broke his own record from two years ago in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:48.35.

To date, Northwestern swimmers have broken a total of 40 records this season.

Northwestern's Brian Davis swam a 15:42.38 in the 1650 free style and the Wildcat coaches are hopeful that his times will only improve at the Big Ten Championships.

Louis Torres finished second in the 100 breast with a time of 56.31. Torres posted a first and second place finish in the breaststroke events in the dual against Michigan last week.

Although the 'Cats trail by two points, Northwestern swimmers won seven of the day's nine events lead 89-75 in swimming-only events.

Competition continues tomorrow in day two of the dual meet at 11 a.m.
