In the past there has been confusion about a number of records, due to the fact that different organizations, including NISCA—the National Interscholastic Coaches’ Association—have listed different marks. After a comprehensive search, we have determined that the records, as we have posted them, are entirely accurate.

Below is a list of the discrepancies with the NISCA marks.

GIRLS PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL RECORDS
100 yard freestyle. The record is 49.34r, set by
Nicole Haislett, Lakewood HS, Florida on Nov. 17,
1989. (NISCA lists 49.37 by Cassidy Maxwell on
Nov. 2, 1998.)

GIRLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL RECORDS
100 yard breaststroke. The record is 1:02.03 by
Michele Schroder, Notre Dame, KY, on Feb. 20,
1993. (NISCA lists 1:02.35 by Tori DeSilvia in
1989.)

200 yard individual medley. The record is 1:58.45 by
Natalie Coughlin, Carondolet, Calif., on May 20,
2000. (NISCA lists Coughlin’s former mark of
1:58.84 from 1998.)

200 yard medley relay. The record is 1:45.53 shared
by Bolles, Fla. (on 11/21/92) and Germantown,
Penn. (on 2/27/00). (We previously listed a faster
time by Peddie in 1995. However that relay used
an 8th-grader, and the record has been retracted.)

BOYS PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL RECORDS
100 yard butterfly. The record is 47.81 by Dan
Westcott, The Woodlands, Tex., on Feb. 27, 1999.
(NISCA lists 48.14 by Ugur Taner in 1992.)

BOYS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL RECORDS
400 yard freestyle relay. The record is 2:59.98 by
Bolles, Fla., on Feb. 23, 1991. (NISCA lists
3:01.80 by Bolles and St. Francis de Sales, both
in 1999.)
