Michael Andrew Dashes To Top of 200 IM Qualifiers During Prelims of 2015 FINA World Junior Championships

Michael Andrew of the USA leads the competition going into tonight’s 200-meter IM after posting a quick 1:59.86 in prelims, making him the only swimmer under the two-minute mark. Andrew finished just shy of the championship meet record of 1:59.44 from 2013.

Clyde Lewis of Australia finished second overall in prelims posting a time of 2:00.50 to earn his spot in finals tonight.

Spain’s Hugo Gonzalez grabbed the third place seed with a finishing time of 2:01.88, adding slightly to his seed time of 2:01.50.

TOP THREE QUALIFIERS SPLITS:

Hungary’s Daniel Sos claimed the fourth-place seed finishing with a time of 2:01.19 from heat five.

Sean Grieshop of the USA finished fifth in prelims with a time of 2:02.26, while Canada’s Javier Acevedo was a close sixth at 2:02.32.

Great Britain’s Martyn Walton (2:02.51) and Russia’s Nikolai Sokolov (2:02.67) round out the top eight for tonight’s finals.
