Maxime Rooney Just Shy of 200 Free Meet Record at 2015 FINA World Junior Championships

Maxime Rooney of the USA claimed the top seed in the men’s 200-meter free during prelims of day two with a sizzling 1:47.86, making him the only swimmer of the session to go under the 1:48 mark. Rooney’s time is only .31 seconds off Mack Horton’s meet record of 1:47.55 from 2013.

Australia’s Damian Fyfe claimed the second-place seed with a quick 1:49.21, while Russia’s Elisei Stepanov took third with a time of 1:49.72 from heat eight.

Great Britain’s Cameron Kurle and Russia’s Ernest Maksumov kept it close in heat six claiming both the fourth and fifth-place seeds. Kurle posted a time of 1:49.90 to finish ahead of Maksumov’s 1:49.97.

Grant Shoults of the USA finished sixth overall in prelims with a time of 1:50.05, while Tunisia’s Mohamed Mehdi Lagili posted a time of 1:50.21 for the seventh-place seed.

Brazil’s Felipe Souza rounded out the top eight with a time of 1:50.54 for tonight’s finals.
