MINNESOTA – Kierra Smith had a breakout swim tonight in the women’s 200-yard breaststroke at the Arena Grand Prix in Minnesota.

Tonight, with a sizzling 2:05.12, she became the sixth-fastest swimmer ever in the event.

Smith spoke with Swimming World shortly after her win. Although she’s definitely happy with breaking a Minnesota record, and what that entails for her long course swims this next year, Smith and the Minnesota Golden Gophers were a bit preoccupied throughout the night.

Listen as Smith tells the trials and tribulations of finally being able to get the walkout song she wanted for tonight’s finals – Hollaback Girl.
