Italian Long Course Nationals: Samuel Pizzetti Posts Top Ten Swim

RICCIONE, Italy, April 15. THE third day of competition at the Italian long course nationals featured another world-ranked time by distance swimmer Samuel Pizzetti.

Pizzetti, who had posted the second fastest time in the world in the 800 free on Wednesday, swam the seventh-fastest 400 free today with a winning time of 3:47.31. Well back in second place was Luca Baggio with a 3:50.05. Placing third was Cesare Sciocchetti in 3:52.94. Placing fourth in the race was 2000 Olympic 400 free silver medalist Massimiliano Rosolino with a 3:53.49.

Paolo Facchinelli won the men's 50 fly with a 24.10, just shy of his national record of 23.60. Lorenzo Benatti finished second in 24.23, and placing third was Piero Codia with a 24.44.

Alessia Polieri won the women's 400 IM with a 4:41.88, with Stefania Pirozzi placing second in 4:42.17. In third was Susanna Negri with a 4:48.24.

The women's 200 back was won by Federica Sorriso in 2:13.30, while Federica Meloni was second with a 2:13.73. Rounding out the podium in third was Elna Gemo with a 2:14.07.

Sebastiano Ranfagni won the men's 200 back in 1:59.24. Placing second was Fabio Laugeni, just shy of the two-minute barrier with a 2:00.11. Third place went to Damiano Lestingi with a 2:00.36.

Ilaria Bianchi took the women's 100 fly in 59.17, just ahead of Elena Di Liddo's second-place time of 59.82. Third place went to Caterina Giacchetti with a 59.88.
