Grevers, Connors, Earn Swimming World Magazine National Collegiate Swimmers of the Week

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 18. THIS week, Division I Northwestern's Matt Grevers and Division III Kenyon's Jessica Connors were named Swimming World Magazine's National Collegiate Swimmers of the Week.

The Wildcats pulled off an impressive victory at the Dallas Morning News Classic by setting 10 meet and pool records en route to a triumphant 359 points. That tally was good enough to beat No. 3 California (334), host SMU (305) and No. 10 Florida State (131), which only swam one day. Whenever Grevers hit the pool, he set a meet and pool record. His top swim broke the Northwestern school record with an A-cut time of 1:34.21 to win the 200 free. He also clocked an A-cut times of 46.86 in the 100 back and 1:41.55 in the 200 back. Additionally, Grevers helped three relays set meet and pool records including an A-cut time of 1:19.74 in the 200 freestyle relay. That performance also garnered Grevers Collegeswimming.com National Division I Male Swimmer of the Week kudos.

"Our team came into this meet pumped up to make a statement and we did it," Grevers said. "Not only did we break a bunch of records, but we proved that we have to ability to make a serious run at the Big Ten and NCAA Championships. Mike (Alexandrov) and I are looking forward to ending our careers at Northwestern on top."

After a lengthy month-long break, the women of Kenyon College knocked off Division I Oakland, 145-143, on Saturday. Connors opened the meet by helping the 200 medley relay win in 1:49.57. Connors then won the 100 breast in a B-cut time of 1:07.22, before touching in a B-cut time of 2:23.53 to win the 200 breast. She also won the 200 IM in 2:12.28. That effort also earned Connors Collegeswimming.com National Division III Female Swimmer of the Week accolades.
