Former High School Swim Coach in Michigan Sentenced for ‘Sexual Contact’ With Student

A former swim coach and aquatics director in Michigan has been sentenced to 7 to 15 years in prison for “sexual contact” with a student.

Scott Simmons, former swim coach at Allegan Public Schools, was sentenced by Judge Matthew Antkoviak in Allegan County’s 48th Circuit Court on Monday, April 22, according to The Holland Sentinel.

Simmons pled guilty to three charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person at least 16 years old, but less than 18 years old, on March 11, according to the report. The sentence was the same for each of the three counts, but will be served concurrently. Simmons will also have to register as a sex offender.

“I certainly believe this defendant deserves a lengthy sentence for what he did,” prosecutor Myrene Koch told reporters. “We certainly prosecute cases like this for the named victim … but we also want to make sure there are no other victims going forward.”
