First Night of St. Mary’s City Speedo Sectional Concludes

ST. MARY'S CITY, Maryland, July 19. THE first night of long course meter competition at the St. Mary's City Speedo Sectional came to a close with competition in the 100 and 1500 frees as well as the 100 breast and 200 IMs.

Emily Kelly, 15, of the Long Island Aquatic Club won the women's 1500 free by more than four seconds with a time of 17:04.41, while Max Ettore of the Jersey Wahoos took home the men's 800 free in 8:21.17.

In the 200 IMs, Alison Clemens of the Agua Swim Team won the women's race in 2:21.06, while Louis Vayo walked away with the men's title in 2:07.84.

Colleen Law of Curl-Burke won a close battle in the 100 free with a time of 58.52 as youngster Lia Neal, 12, of Agua Swim Team clocked a second-place 58.64. After setting the 10&Under National Age Group records in the 50 and 100 free, Neal is on the trail of Grace Cornelius' 11-12 100 free NAG of 58.17 set in 1985.

Kevin Wakefield of Express Swimming touched out Andrew Trepp and Evan Reed, 52.52 to 52.60, in an exciting finish in the men's 100 free, while Pavel Buyanov cruised in the men's 100 breast with a winning time of 1:05.43.

Lauren Norberg, 15, of Ithaca Aquatics Club won the women's 100 breast in 1:11.95, with another fast 12-year-old, Annie Zhu of the Twisters, placing second in 1:12.90.
