Finals Tickets Beginning To Sell Out For European Championships

BERLIN, Germany, June 16. EXCITEMENT is high for the upcoming European swimming championships, with spectator tickets for the finals session of the sixth of seven days of competition sold out.

The organizers of the meet made the announcement today, noting that more tickets might be available for the August 23 finals if television broadcasters do not need as much space as previously planned. Because August 23 falls on a Saturday, it should be no surprise that it has become the first session to sell out at the Velodrom.

The August 23 finals session looks to be a strong one, featuring finals in seven events and semifinals in four others:

Medal events on August 23:
Women’s 1500 free
Men’s 100 fly
Women’s 200 free
Women’s 50 back
Men’s 200 back
Men’s 50 breast
Men’s 800 free relay

Semifinal events on August 23:
Women’s 50 breast
Men’s 50 free
Women’s 200 fly
Women’s 50 free

Many of the medal events will feature swimmers who could post world-leading times, or challenge swims taking place on the other side of the world at the Pan Pacific championships in Australia. Lotte Friis of Denmark is expected to dominate the women’s 1500 freestyle, though she could have a battle with Great Britain’s Jazz Carlin if Carlin elects to swim in the meet after the Commonwealth Games.

Steffen Deibler and Evgeny Korotsyshkin could be two to watch in the men’s 100 fly, while Radoslaw Kawecki will be the highlight of the men’s 200 back. Federica Pellegrini will look to reclaim her 200 free European title, while Damir Dugonjic will look to repeat as European champion in the 50 breast.
